Letting sand run through my fingers on the beach at sunset is the clearest memory from my childhood growing up on England’s beautiful Dorset coast. But it wasn’t long before I looked beyond it. Southwest, specifically, towards the unfettered wilds of Patagonia. Once I arrived, my curiosity only pushed me onward from there, and I travelled all the way to the edge of the world. On journeys full of good times and good food (and even better people), these far-flung latitudes quickly became my “happy place”. They still are.
My favorite thing about my role as a Travel Expert specializing in – you guessed it – trips to Latin America, is curating itineraries that allow our travelers to move thoughtfully through the world; where they leave a place not only with wonderful memories, but having given something back to the communities they’ve visited.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me heading off on my own travels (as you might expect from someone who designs trips for a living) or sharing a meal with my family. Nothing beats good people and good food, if you ask me.
"This was, without question, the most enjoyable evening of my life."
A closer look at BoliviaStepping into Uyuni, a town on the rim of Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni salt flats, feels quite disorientating. It sits at an astonishing altitude, over 12,000 feet above sea level. But the warmth and hospitality of its people ranks even higher.
Shortly after arriving, I found myself sitting at the dining table of a local family. They generously shared their meal with me as we laughed and talked for hours about how our lives were totally different, yet somehow so similar all at the same time. I remember glancing at the stove in the corner of the room (which was probably decades older than I was at the time), and thinking that, yes, the food was basic, the plates were a little wonky, and all we had to drink was tea. But that this was, without question, the most enjoyable evening of my life.
