Your journey begins in Santiago. For the next two nights, you’ll be experiencing the energy of this well-loved urban destination. From the comfort of the Singular Santiago hotel, you’ll be in the thick of the action. Throw down your bags, as you’ll be heading out this afternoon on a private tour of the historic and cultural sites across the city. Each neighbourhood boasts its own unique character, from the grand architecture within the historic centre to the quaint boutiques and outstanding street murals of Bellavista’s arty-culture scene. From there, it’s time to check out the trendy rooftop bars, cycle around the hillside parks or perhaps venture out of town for wine tasting in the surrounding vineyards.
ONTO THE NEXT ADVENTURE
Rise and shine as today we say goodbye to city life. Soaring up and over to the edge of the continent, you will be landing in Punta Arenas where you’ll be warmly welcomed to your hotel for the night. Relax and get to know your fellow explorers during the welcome dinner and destination briefing for your epic upcoming voyage.
FROM EARTH TO ICE
Your Antarctica adventure kicks off the next morning with a two-hour flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island in the South Shetland Islands. By taking to the skies instead of the seas here, you’ll dodge the choppy sea journey across the Drake Passage, saving two days of your valuable time while you’re at it. We fly you straight to the heart of the action, so you have more time to enjoy the best of Chile and it powerful continent. Fill your lungs with the pure Antarctic air as you exit the plane, taking your first glimpse of the icy, mountainous landscape. You’ll then board the luxurious Magellan Explorer and set sail into the unknown.
FROZEN PLANET
Prepare for some magic, as for the next five days you’ll be moving between the frozen realms of the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, passing by ice-filled fjords and mighty icebergs. You cannot fathom the ferocity of an orca until you witness the hunt or the laughs that build from the pit of your stomach as a parade of penguins belly-slide across the frozen ground. Visit iconic destinations such as Paulet Island, Hope Bay and Deception Island in the company of humpback whales, leopard seals and emperor penguins.
Flexibility is the key to success in Antarctica and every journey is completely unique. The expert knowledge of our Expedition Team ensures that you take advantage of the ever-changing conditions. Wake up each day with new spectacular lands to step onto. Disembark by Zodiac, explore the mysterious landscapes with your expert polar guides and then wind down the day sharing stories and soaking up those breathtaking views from the comfort of the lounge.
And if you’re not afraid of the cold? Arctic waters await those brave enough to take a polar plunge. Dipping into icy waters, there’s no sensation quite like it; but the thought of a waiting hot cocoa (or something stronger) helps.
THE FINAL STRETCH
All good things must sadly come to an end, but not quite yet. Today we return to King George Island and bid farewell to the crew before flying to Punta Arenas for some well-deserved rest. From there, it’s onto Torres del Paine in the heart of Chilean Patagonia, where you’ll spend your final few nights surrounded by spellbinding scenery and sumptuous comfort at Explora Patagonia. With expert guides at hand, why not saddle-up and take to the mountains on horseback or make tracks hiking through the epic wilderness all before unwinding at the lodge’s bathhouse. After four nights here, you’ll feel rested and reinvigorated in equal measure as you catch a flight back to Santiago and onto home from there.
