Otahuna sits in Tai Tapu, just twenty minutes from Christchurch city on New Zealand’s South Island. Set against the backdrop of an ancient volcano, the landscape is truly dramatic and just as inspiring as the hotel’s interior.
Your room
Unsurprisingly the suites are regal and hark back to a bygone era. The bedrooms have plenty of space, and the bathrooms are particularly lavish, some with open fires. The Verandah Suite caught our eye; its outdoor terrace a sheltered suntrap from which to survey the picturesque grounds.
Why we like it
Call us old-fashioned but sometimes it’s nice to be transported back to a simpler time, and that is exactly what Otahuna Lodge does for us. Even better is that the glamor of the good old days has been combined with modern luxury and excellent hospitality, making this one of New Zealand’s finest hotels.
