Searching for ties to my family’s ancestry in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands as a child kickstarted my quest for something different. For language, culture, adventure – and for something beyond the sleepy Massachusetts suburb where I grew up.
After graduating, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and move to Europe. For three years I fell in love with Norwegian fjords, Spanish wine and Puglian villages. Now, in my role as a Travel Expert, I work with our travelers one-on-one to understand what they’re hoping to get out of their travels. Whether that’s retracing their family heritage, venturing outside of their comfort zones, or finding the perfect spot to relax (wherever in the world that may be).
I’m always curious to explore both new and familiar places. Back home in the US, I’ll set off in a kayak and explore new corners of Massachusetts’ South Shore. On my travels, it’s anyone’s guess.
"I have a soft spot for last-minute adventures"
A closer look at ScotlandI have a soft spot for last-minute adventures. It’s a trait I inherited from my dad.
I was traveling on a research trip in Scotland aboard the Royal Scotsman. As I was weaving my way through the Highlands, I received a message from my dad saying he could meet me on the Isle of Islay in two days if I could make it. The plan? Visit our favorite whiskey distillery – Lagavulin – together. An experience that had been on both of our bucket lists for years. Fortunately, after a slight mad dash to get there, we spent the morning exploring the island (and Lagavulin Distillery); savoring the warm bite of Scotch, spotting puffins and seals. Sláinte (or, “cheers”).
