Sam Gingerella
I was ten when my family and I moved from our quiet neighborhood in New Jersey to the (much busier) city of Brussels in Belgium.
And as I grew up there in the six years that followed, I began to get a grasp on the world beyond home. School sports visits took me to Germany, England, and even Egypt – and family vacations were spent on small Greek islands, in beautiful Italian cities, and discovering the architecture of Spain. These experiences kicked off a lifetime of exploring everywhere I could, by any means possible. Curiosity sends us on some serious adventures, doesn’t it?
I know that the total joy I’ve felt from experiencing the world around me is not something that should be taken for granted, and I feel so fortunate to be able to play a part in conjuring that feeling for our travelers. As an Operations Expert, it’s my job to handle all the little details that make your trip seamless and smooth – so that you can focus on what’s important: soaking up every second of your time away.
If I’m not on a trip of my own, I’m usually obsessively planning the next one. Or crocheting. Or spoiling my dog, Murphy. Essential things.
"I can’t imagine a better reward"
A closer look at PeruThey say you never know until you try. This was my mindset as I set off on a five-day trek to Machu Picchu, having never hiked farther than a couple of miles before. 46 miles, a peak elevation of 15,225 feet, and a whole day nicknamed by locals as the “Gringo Killer”. What could go wrong?
It was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. But even more than that, it was the most rewarding. We trekked through torrential rain, deep snow, and thick jungle heat all within one week – sometimes on the same day. We witnessed, and immersed ourselves, in Peru’s extraordinary landscapes. We slept under effervescent stars. And at the end of it all, was Machu Picchu. I can’t imagine a better reward.
